Children and Nature - What are the benefits of children playing in nature? How could 'nature play' allow young ones to obtain meaningful ecological knowledge?

These are some of the thought-provoking ideas our Landcare Conference presenter Amanda Blakney will be exploring on Saturday 26 October.

Amanda will share ideas on how to engage younger children in observing nature while they play, in a way that they obtain meaningful ecological knowledge. This includes the use of fun tools such as relatable common species names, technology, games and field guides.

Building ecological knowledge in young children requires a level of understanding from the educator. For those educators passionate about nature play but less confident in ecology, these are invaluable tools and techniques for embarking on nature connection journeys alongside children.
