Outstanding Landcarers to be celebrated and awarded

NRM North and Landcare Tasmania have teamed up again to offer Community Landcare Awards in the northern region. Award categories align with Landcare Tasmania's award categories, coming up again in 2017, and are open until 29 August.

The awards recognise individuals, community groups, primary producers, businesses and school/youth groups who have made an outstanding contribution to landcare in the NRM North region and are supported by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.

The awards follow from a successful inaugural program in 2014.

Landcare Tasmania Executive Officer Rod Knight said “The community Landcare movement has achieved some significant agricultural, environmental and social outcomes over the past 27 years."

"These awards are a good opportunity to celebrate those successes, inspire more people to become involved and provide a basis for entry to Landcare Tasmania's 2017 Statewide awards program.”

NRM North CEO Rosanna Coombes said “NRM North is pleased to be able to again partner with Landcare Tasmania for the awards this year."

“It is a fantastic way to celebrate the achievements and raise awareness of those passionate people in the NRM North region who are dedicated to improving their local landscapes."

“These volunteers are crucial in the management of our natural resources and we want to thank them for their hard work.” Ms Coombes said.

The award categories are aligned with the biannual Tasmanian Landcare Awards to enable applicants to easily adapt their submissions for the state awards in 2017.

Winners will receive an award and a voucher to assist with their landcare efforts.

Entries close on August 29th and the winners will be presented with their awards at a function in Launceston on September 28th, following the NRM North AGM.
