Friends of Smooth Island

We own an Island near Hobart of approximately 150 acres. Over 200 years of farming, the environment has been all but destroyed, with all but a few trees removed and the infestation of many weeds. The biggest cause for concern is African Boxthorn of which there are many plants mostly in one area, which is also rookery to hundreds of Short-tailed Shearwater and Little Penguins. We have at this stage planted over a thousand indigenous trees and shrubs, and plan to continue the revegetation and recover the environment as much as we can. Our goal is to return this Island we have the privilege to own to its magnificent origins. We are currently controlling African Boxthorn using cut and paste methods.
