Tas Land Conservancy - Egg Island Reserve working bee

Join the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) in its ninth year of controlling Spanish heath on Egg Islands Reserve. Invasive weeds don't belong in this important natural area - we need your help to eradicate it for good.

The TLC’s Egg Islands Reserve supports endangered plant communities and provides habitat for several threatened animals, including the Australasian bittern and swift parrot. The TLC reserve adjoins the Egg Islands Conservation Area; we work cooperatively with the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service to manage the weed threat to the islands.

So, if the idea of boating along the Huon River, experiencing beautiful scenery and achieving conservation in a team of great folk sounds good to you, then join us!

The Activity

Our time will be spent slowly walking transects through native grasslang, wetlands and woodlands searching for Spanish heath plants, typically only a few inches tall. This is a 'fine tooth comb' style search and requires concentration and a keen eye. We may also encounter the weeds gorse and blackberry, which we will also control.
