Risen Group

Risen Group have 8 members from the community and we the two leaders that allows the members to contribute towards our goal of planting olives to create a sustainable environment where people feel their contributions are valued. The property have a small forest, olives and grasslands.

We work with the community members to ensure education and decisions are made that is best for the environment like sustainable forest management. We focus on conserving the natural habitats of plants and animals and respecting the rights of local communities. Growing and harvesting timber sustainably provides valuable income and work opportunities whilst conserving the forest for future generations. This means that there is an ongoing incentive to manage the forest responsibly, with equal emphasis on the social, environmental and economic aspects.

We have an existing olive grove and is in the process of planting another 200 trees. We plan to incorporate grazing as part of our soil management program to control erosion and and reduce the impact of rain falling on bare soil and wind removing soil particles. It also reduces the speed of water flowing over the land. Erosion risk is significantly reduced when there is more than 30% soil cover. Total cover is achievable for many grazing and cropping systems. Growing and harvesting olives provides income opportunities whilst managing soil erosion.
