Christmas picnic at Jacks Flat
We hope you can make it to our Christmas Picnic at Jacks Flat
All are welcome, bring a plate of food to share!
Come early at 4pm to share in forward planning for our 2025 calendar of activities.
How to find Jacks Flat:
Jacks Flat Reserve is on Old Forcett Road opposite Heatherbelle Road.
Drive in the gate beside the bus shelter and follow the track all the way to the rock circle.
Southern Beaches Landcare/Coastcare Inc. began rehabilitating Jacks Flat during the 2000 Olympics.
Since then it has been transformed from a degraded creek and denuded paddock to valuable habitat - home to flourishing plant communities and a multitude of birds, animals and invertebrates.
A Landcare Action Grant through Landcare Tasmania has supported us to undertake more care and rehabilitation of the Council and Crown Land areas that make up this unique local reserve.
In 2024 we planted 400 more native plants, and with support from a Regional Arts Grant installed Black Peppermint / Sky Country - A collaborative community arts project led by pakana artist Aunty Cheryl Mundy trimanya collaborating with local artist Priscilla Beck which signal our intention for the way this site is managed; connecting with ancestral knowledge of Country and the responsibility of the local community to care for Country alongside Aboriginal people.
Our activities at Jacks Flat in 2025 will focus on the rehabilitation of China Creek.
