We would love you to join us! We are a group of passionate volunteers who are committed to regenerating the New Town Rivulet and stewarding its platypus. We welcome community members to join us in our efforts to restore and protect this important riparian ecosystem and its native inhabitants. We care about the length of the Rivulet, ensuring that our clean-ups, weed removal, regeneration and advocacy all occur within a planned framework that will lead to the best long-term outcomes. We work cooperatively with the other community groups caring for the Rivulet. Our vision...As local residents we value the richness of the New Town Rivulet and its native life. We are concerned for the “near threatened” status of the platypus and we recognise its vulnerability while the Rivulet is in its current state.What we do...We:Instigate an environmental plan for improving the health of the New Town Rivulet riparian systemOrganise rubbish clean upsEradicate invasive weedsObserve local flora and faunaPlant indigenous species for regenerationMonitor water qualityApply for grantsPromote awareness of the platypus populationLobby governments and authorities to meet their responsibilitiesHow we do it...We:Use data and evidence to make decisionsShare responsibility with other stakeholdersUtilise existing opportunities (Keep Australia Clean etc.)Advocate for government and agencies to meet their responsibilitiesHarness the good will in the communityUse social media to promote opportunities and awareness

Regular events:

Rubbish Clean-ups, plant watering, and working bees will be advertised as they arise. The four committee meetings for 2025 are: 4 February, 6 May, 5 August (including AGM), 4 November
