Tramway Hill Landcare Group in Margate was formed in 2000 and is a group of environmentally conscious people who are happy to roll their sleeves up and take care of public open spaces for all to enjoy. Three sites are managed by Tramway Hill Landcare Group in conjunction with the local council: Tramway Hill Reserve (6.66 hectares) was formerly grazing land. Block plantings of natives plus fencing off areas to allow natural regeneration is transforming this once bare paddock into habitat for many native animals. Nierinna Creek Reserve (1.59 hectares) came under our care in 2005 and is managed without the aid of herbicides or pesticides. Poplars line the creek which once provided wind breaks for orchards in earlier years. Plantings of Eucalyptus viminalis and Eucalyptus ovata have been a main focus to provide habitat for the 40 spotted pardelote and the swift parrot. Davis Flat (0.6 hectares) is the latest addition to our sites. Weeding is the main focus of any working bees. Davis Flat has a path going through it which links up Rollins Road with Brook Lane.
