Craig Smith & Patrick Harrison, Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania

A workshop and demonstration that will enable participants to gain a clearer understanding of LISTmap tools and functions.

The Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) is a whole of government infrastructure that facilities the discovery and delivery of integrated Tasmanian land information data and services.  It provides a secure platform from which a wide range of government land information data and services can be managed, discovered, and delivered in accordance with recognised standards, maximising the social, environmental, and economic benefits of land information for all Tasmanians. The LIST was original released in 1996, was redeveloped in 2014 and is again scheduled for an overhaul in 2024-25 with the completion of the All Hazards project. LIST has a wide user base, with a diverse range of users accessing the many and varied services, these include Lawyers, Real Estate Agents, Landcare and NRM Groups and all tiers of Government. While there are many key services and quick links available from the LIST home page, one of the most popular is LISTmap.

LISTmap is a free an online map viewer that allows you to view, create and share your own personalised maps of Tasmania, using a wide range of authoritative land-based information.  With over 1800 layers available to the public, there are many layers users can access to support a range of activities and/or pursuits including buying a house, planning a bush walk or better understanding the distribution of our state’s natural values.

Craig is the Service Delivery Manager at Land Tasmania (Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania) and is responsible for the management of the LIST infrastructure. He has over 35 years’ looking after, managing, and delivering land information and spent a large majority of this time educating the Departments internal and external stakeholders to ensure they are aware off the many free LIST products and services available including LISTmap, opendata and the availability of web services. Outside of work Craig is active and enjoys running, mountain biking or relaxing with his growing adult family.
