Feral cat trapping techniques

John Bowden

In this workshop, John will talk about cat trapping setting and location, effective trap design, bait, trap checking routine, animal welfare, euthanasia and record keeping.

A practical field demonstration to encourage and train participants on responsible and humane feral cat control.

Having worked as a penguin tour guide, John witnessed first-hand the impact on native animals caused by feral cats.

He felt compelled to reduce the predation that they caused and 2013, commenced as a Cat Management Officer with Latrobe Council.

Since that time he has been engaged in cat trapping across multiple land tenures in many areas of the state but predominantly the central north helping to remove over 1000 feral cats from the Tasmanian environment and returning many stray cats to their respective owners.

John is passionate about protecting Tasmania's native fauna into the future.
