National Tree Day in Bicheno
National Tree Day was founded in 1996. Each year hundreds of thousands of people around Australia plant over a million native seedlings on National Tree Day.
This year Council will be holding a National Tree Day event on the Bicheno foreshore reserve from 10:30am on Thursday 25th July. The site will be on the foreshore reserve adjacent to Allen St (between Redbill Point and Cod Rock). Park in Allen St or at the Redbill Beach car park at the end of Gordon St and follow the signage to find the site.
We will be planting a variety of native grasses, groundcovers and low growing shrubs to revegetate the area and rehabilitate the little penguin habitat. We will be using guards to protect the plants while they are establishing. We will also be mulching and watering the plants.
Please wear suitable clothing, a hat and sturdy footwear and bring sunscreen and drinking water. Please bring a pair of gardening gloves, and a trowel or small shovel, a pick or mallet, and watering can if possible. We will have some spare equipment available.
