National Landcare Program Phase Two Community Landcare Petition

We the undersigned, call on the Commonwealth government to to address the following areas of funding announced recently under the National Landcare Program Phase TWO (NLP2).

  1. We call for the urgent release of further details about funding areas that will affect community Landcare, and for there to be meaningful consultation on these arrangements.
  2. We are concerned that the funding proposed by this program has signifiicant gaps, with negative consequences and high uncertainty for community Landcare groups working in urban, peri-urban and coastal areas, those working in freshwater areas, and those involved in community efforts to manage important areas on public and council land.
  3. We want to see funding flow across all Landcare issues so we can get on with our work, with all Landcare groups having reasonable access to financial support.
  4. We call for greater recognition and support of capacity building and community engagement in the community Landcare sector, particularly for groups like Landcare Tasmania and others who play a key role in helping people to be empowered to address their Landcare challenges.

The proposed program arrangements do not adequately address these areas of Landcare and we are not being heard. We are a movement of over 200 groups in Tasmania representing over 3,000 people, and part of the network of 5,000 groups nationally representing about 120,000 committed community Landcarers.
