Plasticwise Taroona

Plasticwise Taroona is a local volunteer run not for profit organisation dedicated to reducing the amount of plastic waste ending up in our environment, bush, waterways and oceans.

We run regular sewing bees where we make reusable cloth bags from recycled materials, to stock community bag libraries across Tasmania. So far this project has saved over 685,000 plastic bags from ending up in landfill and littering our environment and ocean.

We also run regular litter clean ups in our local community, registering all litter collected through the Australian Marine Debris database.

We are currently working with our local schools to reduce the amount of plastic wrappers and rubbish littering the school grounds. This project involves education and also working with students on sustainability projects like making beeswax wraps to use instead of cling wrap and zip lock bags for lunches.
