With a changing world, it has become increasingly vital to reconnect the younger generation with nature. Understanding the importance of this bond, our "Know Your Local Patch" program was recently launched with the aim of fostering a love for the environment among children. Let's take a look back at some of the exciting workshops held as part of this program and discover how they successfully brought children closer to the wonders of the natural world.

Our 2023 School Landcare Program is up and running and our participating schools are having a blast learning about their local flora and fauna.

After a successful school Landcare program in 2022, we are currently taking EOIs for our exciting new 2023 school program, featuring citizen science, agriculture, and circular economy learning.

Landcare’s School Citizen Science Program was born from the idea of putting wildlife cameras in schools, to enable students to monitor their local patch.

This idea was generously funded by the JM Roberts Trust. From this initial concept, Landcare Tasmania developed the Program in to something much broader – a program that gave students meaningful opportunities to explore their local environment, through a range of hands on activities. Water bug monitoring, bird watching, nature journaling, habitat exploration, and wildlife monitoring with cameras, to name a few.

The Program was developed by Landcare Tasmania staff, with the help of a skills-based working group.

On Tuesday 1st November Dunalley Primary School students were the first in Tasmania to experience a unique educational excursion aimed at teaching young people the importance of minimising landfill and maximising recycling to power the circular economy.
