Marchwiel has had very little Spanish heath with a few small infestations eradicated many years ago.

This all changed following two wet summers with rapidly expanding infestations in regenerating cleared land along Cockle Bay Track and others at Point du Ressac and in bushland above Bluff Beach.

Significant efforts have been made to control the open infestations through slashing and follow up spraying.

Marion Bay Coastcare are supporting this work by tackling those more embedded bushland sites where hand tools and plenty of eyes provide the best option for locating and treating.

Previously we have been tackling infestations behind Bluff Beach and in Crown Land south of Point du Ressac. We will extend the cover in bushland behind Pine Creek beach surrounding the main infestation that is being managed.

Most plants can be hand pulled, though larger ones will require cutting and dabbing with herbicide.

What to bring: The site is bushland with plenty of jack jumper nests, so sturdy footwear and long trousers.
