SPRING Farm Koonya

Currently this group consists of Spring farm landholders, with occasional assistance & seedling donations from friends and neighbours, & in 2019 from Tasman Landcare for 270 species list tubestock. Landcare activities occur weekly at present.

Spring farm receives high rainfall & significant outflow from Mt Koonya, which in 2013 led to a couple of major landslips on hydrologically active & dispersive & undermining soils, subject to highly degraded condition through years of poor grazing management by previous owner.

Our aims are

1. Stabilisation of erosive & degraded soils in major drainage lines. Works already commenced.

2. Regeneration of remnant blue gum landscape on dolerite talus & mudstone . Works already commenced.

3. Regenerate habitat islands whist removing significant area of old high blackberry, ragwort & thistle using wherever possible mechanical, organic methods before chemical control. Works Underway with documented outstanding results over past 2 years. Major fencing already undertaken.

4. Move to regenerative grazing management .  Underway.

5. Improve soil carbon & waterbody quality. Have commenced clearing Dams of invasive cumbungi.

6. Manage for species diversity,  protecting existing Wedgetail eagle & Tasmanian devil populations

7. Expand landcaring philosophy & activities within localised valley community. Intention.
