Friends of Franklin Forest

Franklin Forest is a patch of old wet eucalypt forest 7km from Franklin, in the Huon Valley.

Friends of Franklin Forest is forming a community with a sense of place and stewardship towards Franklin Forest and the myriad of organisms which make up the forest ecosystem. We are working towards the opportunity of land return to the Aboriginal custodians of Melukerdee land, and the creation of an accessible reserve for future generations of all Tasmanians. We promote the economic and cultural value of the forest for the local and broader community. We do this with an openness to converse with a diverse range of voices.

We have developed and maintain a short 2km track through the forest.

We run regular community guided walks along this track, and occasional working bees to maintain the track.

We also run other events for the Huon Valley community to celebrate their landscape and opportunities to be stewards for the country.
