Landcare at Dhamma Pabha

Dhamma Pabha is located on the north-eastern slope of Mt Dromedary, in southern Tasmania, and is listed as a Biodiversity Protection Area. Most of the site is covered by a Eucalyptus globulus dry forest and woodland community. This type of vegetation is listed as threatened under the Nature Conservation Act 2002 and as having a high priority biodiversity value.

We currently meet approximately once a week to undertake working bees on the land and are looking to engage meditators ('old students') and their families in these activities. We do not wish to advertise for members of the general public to attend our working bees but encourage interested persons to visit the Vipassana Tasmania website to find out more about the technique and course schedule at https://pabha.dhamma.org/

Our aim is to enact sustainable land stewardship at the Dhamma Pabha Vipassana Meditation Centre Tasmania by:

1. Providing an environment to support the practice of Vipassana meditation.
2. Complying with Tasmanian Fire Service requirements for maintaining a defendable space around the Dhamma Hall (fire emergency assembly point).
3. Conserving and enhancing site natural environmental land values (with Tasmanian flora and fauna).
4. Establishing a committed team of meditators ('old students') to carry out this work.
