Achievement Plans
The Pacific Black Duck Conservation Group plans to more effectively assist councils in removing dumped populations of feral domestic mallards and mallard x Pacific black duck hybrids from Tasmanian waterways. Removing feral ducks protects the Pacific Black Duck from mallard hybridisation, frees up habitat for native waterbirds and protects waterway vegetation and soils from trampling, fouling, erosion and weeds. Captured feral ducks and hybrids are being donated to wildlife sanctuaries and wildlife rehabilitators as food for endangered species (mainly Tasmanian Devils).
