Natural Values

A unique 34ha piece of remnant vegetation in the fertile agricultural north-west region has been conserved at Frenchs Road Nature Reserve. This stringy-bark wet forest community is home to a wide range of flora and fauna including vulnerable species - giant freshwater lobster, burrowing crayfish, swift parrot, Tasmanian devil, and spotted quoll. Ten of Tasmania's 12 endemic birds are found in the reserve as well as platypus, bats, and giant tree ferns. The removal of invasive weeds and re-vegetation of riparian zone and degraded areas; has made it easier for crayfish poachers.
