Remove willows from the Meander River which are chocking the flow of the river. Improve flow river flow, and rehabilitate Streamside Reserve with native species to improve water quality, river bank erosion, and ultimately improve the river to create habitat for threatened Fauna.
Methods
Further Willows will be removed this summer/autumn 2020 in conjunction with surrounding neighbours who are all contributing financially to progress the following project. The willow trees will be removed, treated and debris burnt by specialised contractor - Woodland Mgt. Following this the areas will be regenerated with native seedlings grown from Forico nursery, supplemented by natives seedlings sourced from specialist nursery (Habitat nursery). Forico will continue with pre/post plant weed control, and browsing control so that the natives thrive.
Natural Values
Enhancing the flow of the Meander River, restoring sections that have become choked, and protecting habitat of threatened fauna (giant freshwater crayfish, Azure kingfisher, etc)
