We are hoping to restore our native Eucalyptus Tenuiramis woodland, into a fire managed native grassland.
Methods
I have about 1.5h of Eucalyptus Tenuiramis that I have cool burnt and am plannning to spread Themeda Triandra seed in half of it. Then leave it for a season, cool burn it again and monitor the results. Research suggests this will aid in the germination of the grass. It may be more efficient to do this rather than planting plants then having to protect them. The right type of fire at the right time of year with the correct soil moisture will bring back native grasses also and with it the wildlife. I would like to involve Indigenous fire knowledge.
Natural Values
I want to restore it to a fire managed, native woodland and grassland. I want to increase swift parrot habitat who naturally already nest within this property and area. Previously this land was overgrazed by cattle and heavy machinery with some burning off over 20 years ago. Burning off reduces fuel loads but doesn't heal country and promote new growth of native grasses, only bracken. So now there are weeds and high fuel loads. The main spices I would like to protect is the Tenuiramus.
