The PBD Conservation Group plans to conduct occasional working bees to remove dumped domestic mallards and PBD x mallard hybrids from the wild. Even with public support, current council efforts vary, and some councils would greatly benefit from smaller, more regular removal efforts. Due to the ongoing dumping of domestic ducks, large one-off culls are ineffective and lead to backlash due to ducks being poisoned by contractors. The hope is that regular mallard removal working bees could help protect the genetic integrity of PBDs in Tasmania.
