Achievement Plans

To improve the long term viability of the first and only Penguin Rehabilitation Centre in North-West Tasmania (which also caters for other seabirds)

Methods

During 2018 Penguin Rehab & Release established the first rehabilitation facility for penguins and other seabirds in the North-West of the state, that come into care due to injury, illness or misadventure. All birds come into care under the appropriate permits from Wildlife Management Branch DPIPWE and are cared for by a registered seabird carer. Volunteers throughout the North-West assist with a variety of tasks including transport, cleaning of enclosures, washing, rescues and releases.

Natural Values

By caring for and rehabilitating individual birds that are in distress, and in returning them to their original habitat, Penguin Rehab & Release is helping to protect the health of localised bird colonies, and assists in ameliorating the impact of human influence on our wildlife.
