Achievement Plans
We will stabilise and revegetate an ex gravel quarry in the Humbug Point Nature Recreation Area which is currently actively eroding
Methods
The quarry will be restored by ripping and recontouring the current area followed by jute matting and geotextiling surfaces followed by direct seeding with local provenance species such Eucalyptus.sieberi , Kunzea ambigua and Allocasuarina littoralis. There is also some weeds that will be controlled such as Sporobulus africanus (Rats Tail Grass). The access to the quarry will be gated.
Natural Values
The quarry is currently leaching sediment into high conservation value Eucalyptus globulus, ovata forest and Melaleuca ericifolia forest in the Bay of Fires Conservation Area and Humbug Point Nature Recreation Area as well as ultimately entering the hcv wetland of Grants Lagoon. Stabilising the quarry will stop sedimentation impacting on the hcv vegetation and improve water quality entering Grants Lagoon
