Achievement Plans

A bushfire in April destroyed 128 hectares at Dolphin Sands leaving sand dunes exposed and vulnerable to erosion. We want to stabilise the dunes using jute netting and replant with appropriate species. We see the blank canvas created by the bushfire as an opportunity to prevent the regrowth of introduced species - coastal wattle and marram grass.

Methods

We'll organise working bees to roll out jute netting over exposed dunes and plant strategically with appropriate, low-flammability species. We'll use mulch from our fuel-reduction strategy around new plantings.

Natural Values

We'll be restoring and enhancing the dune landscape which provides habitat for birds, reptiles and mammals. We'll help the area recover and limit the regrowth of introduced, highly-flammable species.
