Achievement Plans
We have been rehabilitating the Taroona PS and HS native bushland and the gully for many years -- and it's looking great! We'd like to plant Carex apressa (native to area) in the school gully to displace the umbrella sedge that has recently invaded in the last several years. In addition, some of the bushland area would support a new generation of white and blue gums (priority species in Taroona for pardalotes and swift parrots), and the embankments would support more Pomaderris elliptica and Acacia melanoxylon (also naturally occurring here).
Methods
Planting will occur at our regular monthly working bees and mid-week with students. The school is aware of and supports our activities on their land -- we have a formal Partnership Agreement with them.
Natural Values
Remnant native bushland in the heart of Taroona, adjacent the schools (great teaching space--students are very fortunate) and of course, critical habitat for pardalotes and swift parrots.
