Achievement Plans

650 m fencing 8 end assemblies 100 m polypipe 1 stock trough 1400m squared shelter belt = about 800 plants? Signs that describe the project and interpret some of the aquatic plants and insects 1 field day - maybe as part of other dams being restored in the area?

Methods

Contractor - to put in end assembly posts Fencing and end assemblies installed by us. Trough and pipeline to be installed by us. Planting by friends and family Ongoing water and maintenance by us Annual water bug monitoring by entomologist friend

Natural Values

This dam is heavily degraded from stock access and suffers poor water quality from soil erosion. By fencing it off from stock and planting a shelter belt we hope to: Improve water quality and reduce erosion. Create a healthy environment for aquatic plants and insects, as well as birds, plants and mammals. Minimise weed establishment with native plant cover. Conduct a field day for interested farmers and landholders in the area to observe the benefits of enhancing dams in the Coal river valley catchment. Provide signage to raise awareness about the importance of protecting dams (we have a lot of visitors on our farm).

Outcomes

By the end of the project we hope to have high water quality in our dam with a diverse array of aquatic plants, water bugs, frogs and birds.
