Achievement Plans

Over time we look to fencing approx 500m along the roadline, leaving land between neighbours unfenced for continuity of browsing routes for native animals. Pest species eradication (Rabbits) Dig out and re-establish a water source for aquatic plants, animals on the ridge. plantings of native, fire resilient and drought resisting native species across the drying landscape- ongoing at an approx rate of 50 /Annum.

Methods

Volunteer work will be the sole force behind this, with the homeschool community being able to engage and help with plantings and other aspects of the monitoring.

Natural Values

Reveg Silver Hill aims to support the ecosystem on the ridge to maintain and restore the forest and water catchment. The area is seeing the brunt of climactic changes that are severely affecting the vegetation and therefore changing the ecosystem and its wildlife. As an education component we aim to broaden our homeschool group sessions exploring, inspiring and teaching children from 0-5, 5-10 and teenagers about the values, importance of conservation, ecological resilience and caring for lands. Monitoring through cameras, bat detection and bioacoustic recorders day and night would be part of this education for both youth and adults. we aim to fence areas to protect wildlife from the roadline, reduce desiccation by creating pockets of moisture by planting and water bodies, creating a haven and safe environment for all species to thrive. Plantings that have been progressing over the years have seen over 200 plants being nurtured on the land from seed and tubestock, mulch introductions and watering regimes. This land is and always will be that of the Palawa Merlukedee people and so we strive with everything we do to help retain the ecological values it had when it was managed for 40,000 years prior to our custodianship.

Outcomes

We hope that by engaging people in this project, both children and adults will be inspired by the positive changes nature can teach us. We are engaging in something that is bigger and longer lasting that any of us, something we depend on for our own existence. The project will see a greater resilience on the ridge of our native remnant vegetation, the visible growth of the revegetated areas, the influx of animals species using the land and an increased awareness and appreciation for nature by our community and the youth to whom we are entrusting our planet. we are nature, nature is us.
