Weeds Biocontrol Info Event
Join Landcare Tasmania for a free info session on biological control for weeds. Gorse, thistles, ragwort and more...
Dr John Ireson has over 35 years of experience working on the biological control of weeds and led the research that was conducted in Tasmania from 1979-2013. During this period over 30 host specific biological control agents were released against 16 weed species including ragwort, gorse, Paterson’s Curse and Cape broom. His research group received a Landcare Research Award for work on the biological control of ragwort. He will introduce you to the current biocontrol methods available, give an update about their successes, as well as provide an outlook for the future of biocontrol.
Whether you are a farmer, looking after your local patch, or simply concerned about weeds in your local area, this workshop is set to provide some great insights.
The event is part of Landcare Tasmania’s Gorse Biological Control Project, which distributed biological control agents of gorse in the North and North-West of Tasmania. This has been made possible by generous funding from the JM Roberts Charitable Trust.
