Central North Field Nats - Gog Range Walk

Sunday 4 November - Gog Range:   Two walks are offered:
For both walks meet at the Minnow Picnic Ground at 10:00am. From the northwest: travel south through Sheffield on Claude Rd (C136), turn left on Paradise Rd (C137). The Minnow picnic ground is just before the bridge crossing the Minnow river. From Deloraine/Launceston: travel through Mole Creek and north on Union Bridge/Paradise Road (C137), cross the bridge; the picnic ground is on the left. Any questions contact Rod McQueen 6393 2121

Long walk:
The destination for this walk is the Granta Pools (see attached map), a rather interesting “pond” about 180 metres long and surrounded by thick sphagnum moss, nearly impenetrable scrub, and button grass. The pools are a rather unexpected and attractive sight on the top of a mountain range. It’s about 3.5 km each way and a total climb of about 300 metres. Rod McQueen says the walk is rather strenuous, taking about 1 ½ hours to get there, and 1 hour 5 minutes return. Leader Jim Nelson & Rod McQueen

Short walk:
A circuit walk (see attached map) about 3 ½ km total. Some old-growth forest — it was obviously a pine plantation that was logged a few decades ago. However, the regrowth is coming along nicely (few eucalypts), and even though lots of pine is springing up, so too native species seem to be flourishing. Leader Martha McQueen.
