Citizen Science event in Wynyard

Cape Bridge Picnic Ground

Wynyard

October 17, 2026 at 9:00am - 3pm

Come and discover the Azure Kingfisher!

As part of the Tulip Festival program, join us for a special Citizen Science Landcare activity exploring one of Tasmania’s rare and remarkable birds - the Azure Kingfisher.

Tasmania is home to its own endangered subspecies of Azure Kingfisher, found nowhere else in the world. These small, elusive birds can be difficult to spot, and new ways of detecting and understanding them through citizen science is particularly valuable.

Learn more about Azure Kingfishers, the river habitat they depend on and the challenges they face — and discover how citizen science can help us better understand and care for Tasmania’s wildlife.

Meet us at the Landcare Tasmania tent at Cape Bridge Picnic Ground before heading out for a hands-on field experience with locals who are looking after their habitat. Join guest presenter and acoustic ecologist Charley Gros for short guided walks along sections of the Inglis River Walking Track, exploring the river environment and learning about the wildlife that calls it home.
