Dr Graeme Stevenson awarded 2020 Tasmania Senior Australian of the Year

The Landcare activist was presented with the award at a ceremony on Friday at Government House in Hobart.

Also known as Dr Spluttergrunt, the soil enthusiast has been recognised for his work in promoting healthy soil in Tasmania for more than 30 years.

Since 1993, he has been a passionate advocate and volunteer for Landcare Tasmania, a movement that brings individuals and groups together to improve the health of natural and working landscapes.

Dr Stevenson received the award alongside a marine research scientist, a social justice advocate and a men's health advocate.

2020 Tasmania Young Australian of the Year Will Smith has been working with disadvantaged students in the North for more than 10 years.

 

Among the nominees was Wynyard's Madeline Wells, who recognised for her work as a First Nations advocate.

The four recipients will join the other state and territory recipients for the national awards ceremony in Canberra next year.
