Fun at AgFest!

10th May 2024 |

We had an excellent time at the agricultural extravaganza that is AgFest 2024 last week.  Held at the sprawling grounds of Quercus Park, this year's event brought together farmers, families, and nature enthusiasts alike, all eager to engage with the land in meaningful ways.

We had a blast engaging with AgFest go-ers, who we invited to join us for a range of activities, from immersive workshops to nature walks, and even a little bit of pre-emptive 30th birthday celebration.

We had a fantastic program schedule of presentations and discussions featuring citizen science, weeds on farms, feral cat management, revegetation and more.

We even brought along our 'friend' Ezza the feral cat.

We delved into practical strategies for feral cat management, and discussed the nuanced challenges of weed control on farms. Each session provided valuable insights and actionable solutions, which we hope has empowered attendees to make a positive impact on their land.

The grand finale of the our schedule was the "Successful Revegetation" session, where attendees learned about the art and science of restoring ecosystems through strategic planting and management practices with thanks to our expert Herbert Staubmann.

The Nature Trail

A week before the event, we headed down to the Nature Trail site to tidy up the track.

Together with 5 fantastic UTAS Landcare Society volunteers, we worked on cutting and pasting gorse along the track, cleaning up fallen logs and overgrown grass, cleaning informative signs, looking for threatened plant and animal species, tree hollows and setting up some trail cameras in preparation for AgFest's Walk and Talks.

A big thanks to Rural Youth, to everyone involved in making this event happen, and to all those who came along.  Thanks also to Glenore Farm for providing accommodation to working bee volunteers.  A special acknowledgment to the JM Roberts Charitable Trust who supported our attendance and activities at this event as well as the pre-event working bee at the nature trail.
