On-ground funding announced - Landcare Action Grant Open Round 5

24 September 2024 | Eleven projects across the state have received funding under the second stage of the Landcare Action Grants Open Round 5.

The grants awarded in this stage support restoration projects with a focus on riparian and wetland rehabilitation, farm dam enhancement, fencing to protect remnant  vegetation, priority weed control, enhancing landscape connectivity, and educating the wider community.

Eleven projects working across 200ha in various locations across Tasmania will be awarded a total of $160,621 for on-ground activities in this funding round, with an overall total funding support of $463,500 being allocated over the duration of the grant between 2023-2025.

This funding is value-added by the recipients and other support organisations, including councils, to leverage an estimated $600,000 of in-kind support, making this grant an important catalyst for community action.

The Landcare community contributes holistic benefits to Tasmania by improving catchment health, landscape connectivity and better conditions for primary production.

The first stage of the grant round was allocated in November 2023, with a total of 29 projects being awarded a total of $302,879 for on-ground activities with a focus of revegetation and longer-term restoration projects. This funding facilitated the planting of more than 20,000 native plants throughout Tasmania this winter.

The Tasmanian Government launched the Landcare Action Grants in 2018, with the support of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) and Landcare Tasmania. The program has been established to provide State-funded grant opportunities to co-invest with farmers, landowners, and other community organisations on practical on-ground works for revegetation, sustainable agriculture, carbon farming and river restoration activities.
