Following record flooding of the Mersey River in 2016, the Liena Water Catchment Rehabilitation Group formed to help rehabilitate affected areas of the river valley.
Almost ten years later, revegetation is still continuing. Initial intensive planting has been followed by additional planting in some areas each year, alongside willow removal and ongoing restoration work.
Join local Landcarers for a guided visit to two nearby properties around Liena, each with different landscapes and restoration objectives. The group will share the techniques and strategies they have used, what they have learned along the way and how the sites have developed since the original flood rehabilitation work began.
The field trip will include a BBQ lunch and plenty of opportunity for discussion and knowledge sharing.
The day begins with the Riverbank Forum in Deloraine at 9.30am, followed by morning tea and an 11.00am bus departure for Liena.
The morning forum will bring together community Landcare experience, technical expertise and other relevant organisations to discuss the environmental and practical considerations involved in managing a dynamic river system.
