Update: Membership Fees and Categories

18 Nov 2024 | Landcare Tasmania's Board has agreed on a new membership fee structure for 2025. There has been a small increase in the base membership fee from $40 to $44. The biggest change is around making Associate Membership accessible to a broader range of organisations, businesses, and other entities by creating a tiered fee structure for this category, with the lowest tier starting at $44.

On the 22nd of November, Landcare Tasmania's members will vote on a Special Resolution to change the Constitution. If the new Constitution is accepted, the membership categorires will be defined as presented below. If the changes are not accepted, the following fees will apply to the previous Constitution (V4) membership category definitions. Read about proposed Constitution changes here. Categories

Community Care Group

A group of people who are dedicated to Landcare activities*.

Under the proposed constitution, any group of people can form a Community Care Group, as long as:

  • At least 2 people agree to form the group (or agree to register an existing group)
  • The group has a specific purpose related to caring for our land, sky, or waters
  • All funds raised go towards fulfilling this purpose, and if the group closes the remaining funds will be donated (no profit gained)

A group might be…

  • Place-based: a catchment, a local area, a reserve, a property, an urban area, etc
  • Issue-based: a network or group that raises awareness and takes action on Landcare issues
  • Or both!

Note:

  • Community Care Groups manage their own activities, members, volunteers, and safety
  • Also referred to as 'Care Group' or 'Member Group'
  • Full membership & services, including voting rights

Associate

Any entity that is interested in community Landcare issues & activities*, but whose main purpose is something else.

You might be a...

  • School, business, aboriginal organisation, club or association, farm, trust, government entity, etc.

Note:

  • Any of the above entities could form a Community Care Group, which would be a separate group with it's own purpose.
  • Under the proposed constitution, the definition of this category will not change significantly, but the fee structure is new, welcoming a wider range of organisations and businesses that did not fit easily into the Community Care Group definition.
  • Services available to this category will not change
  • Non-voting member

Individual

A person who is involved in, or seeking to get involved in Landcare activities*, and wants to be part of the community Landcare movement

You might be someone who...

  • wants to learn new skills
  • undertakes Landcare activities on your property
  • is part of a Community Care Group (not required)
  • works in a related sector

Note:

  • You do not need to be an Individual Member to join a Community Care Group - each group has it's own rules for joining.
  • Under the proposed constitution, the definition of this category will not change significantly. The category has been broadened to include those seeking to become involved, rather than limited to those already involved in Landcare.
  • Services available to this category will not change
  • Non-voting member
