Produce a short film recognising the restoration of Huon Island; highlighting the volunteers and professionals working to protect threatened habitat, flora, fauna and marine life to our partners and to the public. Little Penguin, Shearwater and Swift Parrot habitat, breeding and research strategies; The importance of the island's unique geological and habitat status; Restoration of habitat trees, understory and our rare and threatened Poa; The Indigenous engagement with the island The impacts of colonial occupation and farming, and relationship between marine and terrestrial environments
Methods
Mike will film & interview volunteers & researchers as they: nurture a sustainable natural habitat remove threats to wildlife conduct field research & wildlife monitoring record the life cycle of the island bird life, migration paths, plant flowering & threats interview stakeholders; Indigenous leaders, researchers & land/sea managers edit footage & compile soundtrack film the significant life cycle movements of island bird life incorporate historic footage, films & documents film & assess marine & terrestrial health through underwater & drone filming consult with partners/stakeholders.
Natural Values
Provide a secure, introduced predator free habitat for severely threatened bird species by restoring the island to its per-colonial state, as recorded by explorers and early settlers. We are committed to the long-term restoration of the island as valuable, secure native habitat for endangered and threatened species. In order to ensure the island is a safe breeding ground for Swift Parrots, Forty Spotted Pardalotes, Little Penguins, Short-tailed Shearwaters & White-bellied Sea Eagles, we will restore the island's original tree, understory and grass cover.
