The heart of The Gathering. A full day for Tasmania’s Landcare community to come together, learn from real experience, share what we know and build the connections that help make things happen.

Across the day, you can choose from panel conversations, practical workshops, In Practice small group conversations and hands on knowledge sharing.
There’s no single pathway through the day. Choose the sessions, topics and conversations that are most useful to you, and make time for the people and ideas you want to follow up.
There’ll also be plenty of space to catch up, meet someone new, ask a question, get practical support or simply take some time out.
What you’ll find across the day
Panels and workshops
Hear different perspectives, explore bigger questions and dig more deeply into practical challenges and opportunities facing Landcare communities.
In Practice
Hosted small group conversations using real examples and shared experience to explore how things actually work in practice.
Hear what others have tried, what they’ve learnt and what’s worked for them, then join the conversation and share your own experience.
Knowledge & Skills Exchange
A practical space to tap into the knowledge of the Landcare network itself. Share useful tools, resources, approaches and experience, find people working on similar things and pick up ideas you can take back to your own group or project.
Three themes running through the program
You don’t need to choose a stream for the day. These three themes run throughout the program, and you can move between them depending on what’s most useful to you.
Community Leadership & Resilience
How do we keep our Landcare communities strong?
Leadership, volunteers, participation, succession and the everyday work of keeping groups connected and going.
Catchment & Farming Systems
How do we work together across our landscapes?
Farms, catchments, shared priorities, partnerships and coordinated action across properties and communities.
Biodiversity & Restoration
How do we turn good ideas into action?
Local priorities, practical projects, restoration, biodiversity and getting more good work happening on the ground.
Throughout the day
Not everything happens in a scheduled session.
Landcare Lounge
Drop in to find Landcare Tasmania staff, practical support, useful resources and people who might be able to help. It’s also somewhere to pause, continue a conversation or make a new connection.
Drop in Advice
Have a specific question or something you want to work through? People with practical experience and expertise will be available at advertised times for short, informal conversations.
Bring your own question and talk it through with someone who can help.
Landcare Scrapbooking
Add your own page to the story of Landcare in Tasmania. Capture a place, project, working bee, person, memory or moment that represents your Landcare experience. The Scrapbooking Project will be available throughout the Saturday Meet Up.
Bring photos, letters, drawings, dried plants, little working bee treasures or simply turn up and create something on the day. Valuable originals can also be scanned and printed so you can keep them safe.
Landcare Digital Library
Landcare groups hold years of valuable knowledge in reports, maps, photographs, newsletters and project records. Throughout the Meet Up, you can find out how the Landcare Digital Library can help preserve, organise and make that knowledge easier to find and use into the future.
Bring along some of your own records to try the process, or simply drop in and see how it works.
And sometimes the most useful part of the day will simply be finding the person you’ve been meaning to talk to. We’ve deliberately left room for those conversations too.
Coming back together
We’ll finish the Meet Up by joining together for the final session.
A chance to step back from the individual sessions, hear the bigger story of community Landcare across Tasmania and reflect on what this network is achieving, what we’re learning and where we go from here.
Then the conversation continues at The Celebration.
Your Saturday ticket
All Meet Up tickets give you access to the same Saturday program and include morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
Landcare Tasmania members can access subsidised tickets thanks to the support of our Gathering partners.
The Celebration on Saturday evening is separately ticketed.
