More networking opportunities for Landcare groups

29 April 2025 | Following in the footsteps of our highly successful networking day held in Huonville last year, we hosted similar events for our groups in other parts of Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Landcare Networking Days

With the aim to help Landcare groups build connections, discuss regional and local priorities, and explore ways for collaboration, we held three networking events in March/April in:

  • Clarence, Brighton and Sorell.
  • Launceston, Dorset and Georgetown.
  • Circular Head, Waratah-Wynyard, Burnie, Central Coast.

The events were a special opportunity for Landcare group conveyors (or a representative from a Landcare group) and individual Landcare members to meet with each other, Landcare Tasmania, council natural resource management staff and special guest speakers to discuss how to collaborate on priority projects, events and training.

The networking events aimed to improve the communication channels and coordinate efforts between Landcare members and natural resource management organisations, resulting in projects submitted to Landcare Tasmania's Project Bank.

Storytelling

Many stories were shared during the course of the three events.

Peter French, the convenyor for the Southern Beaches Landcare Coastcare (SBLC) group, shared his insights on their evolving working relationship with Sorell Council.

The collaboration between Sorell Council and SBLC in the Dodges Ferry Recreational Reserve was highlighted in his talk.

"It's a good example of the influence of Landcare groups and community on improving the management of public reserves," said Peter.

"The support of Sorell Council (councillors, staff) has been very helpful. It's all about developing relationships and being open to working together."

Outcomes

The events included presentations from guest speakers and each council on priorities in the region, and how Landcare members can access advice, support and partnerships. A number of Landcare groups spoke about their experience working with councils on projects.

Networking and resources

Participants received resources from the local councils and opportunities to get involved, as well as information and resources from speakers, and ways to access additional information through the Landcare Tasmania website.
