Our big win!

It is a huge honour for Kingston Beach Coastcare to have received the Landcare Australia 2025 National Greyhound Coastcare Award in September on the Gold Coast! I’m certain there are many other Coastcare groups working around Australia equally deserving of this recognition, yet we have been chosen!

It was a pleasure to be able to accept the award on behalf of our active members with our founding and long serving convenor and member, Jane Bamford. Missed though was past convenor Philip Rogers who is passionate about Coastcare and did much to take care of our patch in his time in the group.

The award honours our core members who are highly dedicated. We are blessed with an ideal number of members attending our working bees and other events, and we continue to experience healthy growth in membership.

This recognition would not have been possible without our biggest organisational supporters: Landcare Tasmania, Kingborough Council and Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA). The Kingborough Council Natural Areas and Biodiversity (NAB) team is our natural partner since we work almost exclusively on Council owned land. The NAB team is highly knowledgeable, skilled and indispensable to our work. We appreciate Landcare Tasmania’s responsiveness to any communication we make; CEO Pete Stronach and his team are super approachable, helpful, resourceful and friendly. CVA help out with extra volunteer support when we hit problems with working bee cancellations due to bad weather.

We hope that this award will help grow and strengthen our group’s work by attracting funding to enable the realisation of our educational goals. Considering the value of community Landcare and its many benefits to individual volunteers and the community, it seems logical to invest in the ongoing and targeted education of its volunteers.

As convenor I'm very proud of all our people and our achievements on the ground in all the places we’ve worked around Kingston Beach (Tyndall Beach, Browns River and the Alum Cliffs Track) over the past 25 years. It’s been truly rewarding to witness the positive transformation and especially to share that experience with our wonderful core members and supporters.
