Sorell Rivulet Community Planting Event

Off Pawleena Road, Sorell

August 01, 2026 at 9:00am - 1pm

Join Landcare Tasmania, NRM South, Sorell Council and Sorell Landcare for a community planting day along Sorell Rivulet!

Together, we’ll learn about the work underway to restore the rivulet, including willow removal, native revegetation, and the role of healthy riverbanks in supporting waterway health.

You’ll hear from local project partners, take part in a walk and talk through the project area, plant native species along the rivulet, and learn how you can stay involved in restoring and protecting Sorell Rivulet.

Sorell Rivulet is an important local waterway that supports native plants, wildlife and the broader health of the surrounding catchment. It also feeds into Orielton Lagoon, making its health important beyond the immediate project site.

This planting day is part of a longer-term restoration project led by NRM South, focused on improving waterway health through careful willow removal, native revegetation, fencing and ongoing community involvement. Willows can spread easily if not managed correctly, so the event will also highlight the importance of using the right removal techniques and working with experienced people.

By planting native species along the rivulet, participants will help restore riparian vegetation, stabilise riverbanks, improve habitat and support the long-term recovery of the waterway and the downstream environments it connects to.

The day is also an opportunity to meet local Landcare members, hear from project partners, and learn how the community can continue to be involved in caring for Sorell Rivulet.
