UTAS Engineering Hackathon

Masked Owls are an endangered species that require large tree hollows for roosting and breeding, however habitat loss is reducing the number of these hollows available to the species.

This event will provide UTAS students with the opportunity to solve this real world environmental engineering problem. Students will be given the opportunity to learn from speakers who are knowledgeable on the topic as well as workshops on designing nesting boxes.

Little has been done in Tasmania to provide nesting space for masked owls, and so this engineering challenge will help to provide an ideas-base for their design.

This event is being held in conjunction with the UTAS Landcare Society, more information can be found on their Facebook page

This event is part of Landcare Tasmania's Rodenticide Awareness Program and is funded by the Australian Government's Communities Environment program.
