Annual grants to members funding Landcare work

Each year, the Tasmanian Landcare Fund (TLF) provides a dedicated round of funding to support member-led projects submitted through our Project Bank. These grants empower local communities to take practical, on-ground action to care for and enhance Tasmania’s remarkable natural environment.

In 2025, our members completed their projects funded through Round 25 of the Tasmanian Landcare Fund (TLF) Annual Grant Round.

The TLF Annual Grants are designed to help people actively care for, improve and sustainably manage Tasmania’s unique landscapes through providing funding and support for a broad range of Landcaring activities. From coastlines to bushland, farms to community reserves, these projects are making a tangible difference across the state.

With 25 rounds now complete since 2004, the Tasmanian Landcare Fund continues to demonstrate the power of community-led action. Each funded project contributes not only to healthier ecosystems, but also to stronger, more connected communities.

Member Success Story

Wrens Hill - Wombat Flats Campground Revegetation Project

On Flinders Island, the Wombat Flats Campground project was created as a meaningful step toward regenerative tourism. The Wrens Hill Community Care Group has created a campground for visitors, offering free camping in exchange for an hour or two of volunteer land management work. Tasks include tree planting, brush cutting, and removing invasive weeds — particularly thistles — along with other seasonal activities.

Their goal is to share the landscape they love while providing environmentally minded people with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the places they visit. The initiative reflects a new approach to tourism being explored by the community on Flinders Island.

The campground is an ongoing project, alongside the broader landcare efforts undertaken by Wrens Hill. Funded through Round 25 of the Tasmanian Landcare Fund Annual Grant Round, 200 trees were planted towards this project. The campground also had its first visitors, who contributed a comprehensive bird survey in exchange for their stay.

The Tasmanian Landcare Fund receives generous support from the JM Roberts Charitable Trust, which helps make our annual grant rounds possible. We will continue to offer this grant opportunity annually, as donations allow.
