Sunday | Field Trips
Sunday 8 November - Get out there
See Landcare in action through practical field trips and activities hosted by local Landcare communities.
Sunday’s program will take you out into the landscape to hear from the people doing the work, see local projects in place and share practical experience. Current activities include:
- Working with Rivers – a river restoration forum followed by a field walk through Wildwood Reserve, Deloraine.
- Living with Ducks – Pacific Black Duck identification, citizen science and Mallard management along the Meander River
- Post Flood Revegetation of the Mersey River Valley – restoration, revegetation and willow management with the Liena Water Catchment Rehabilitation Group
- Spurge Laurel Eradication – practical weed management at Western Creek with Friends of the Great Western Tiers
- Dens for Devils, Bush for Bandicoots, Dams for Diversity – habitat, farm dam and stream restoration with West Tamar Landcare Group
Taking the Gathering beyond Deloraine
The Gathering also extends beyond the main Deloraine weekend, with community hosted activities happening around Tasmania before and after 6–8 November. These are another chance to visit local projects, share knowledge and get involved on the ground.
- Willows by Raft on the Forth River – join Wilmot Willow Busters and qualified raft guides to see willow control and river restoration from the water, with some hands on willow treatment along the way.
- Seagrass Discovery Day – get hands on with seagrass monitoring, citizen science and restoration with Friends of Seagrass Tasmania at Dodges Ferry.
- Rewilding: From Farmland to Wildlife Sanctuary – explore habitat restoration at Wobbly Boot Vineyard and take part in a community planting for wildlife.
- Finding Platypus with eDNA: A Citizen Science Workshop – learn how eDNA can be used to detect platypus and other vertebrates, and find out how to get involved in King Island Landcare Group’s new citizen science program.
