Friends of Orford Bird Sanctuary
The group aims to protect and raise awareness of the the bird values of the Orford Bird Sanctuary which has been declared an Key Biodiversity Area (In Danger) by BirdLife International.
To achieve these aims the Friends of the Orford Bird Sanctuary (FOBS) works in collaboration with BirdLife Tasmania, BirdLife Australia and BirdLife International, Parks and Wildlife Service, Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, Orford Community Group and other interested community members.
Activities undertaken by the FOBS, in collaboration with the land managers, include strategic fencing and signage installation to protect the birds from the recognised key threats of disturbance to nesting and foraging (year round) from humans and dogs. Educational activities will also be undertaken by the group to raise awareness of the international significance of the Sanctuary.
