POSITION TITLE: Education Officer
BASIS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part time 0.6 FTE (22.8 hours per week) until 30 June 2024 - extension likely (dependent on ongoing funding). Position may require occasional work outside of normal business hours.
LOCATION: Hobart, Tasmania, with occasional travel within Tasmania.
SALARY: To be negotiated based on skills and experience within the range $65,000 to $70,000 per annum pro rata, plus superannuation.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Education Officer will take a lead role in the planning and delivery of Landcare Tasmania’s education projects, and events which support Landcare Tasmania school members.  The Education Officer will coordinate the further development of Landcare Tasmania’s education programs and strategies.  Projects that the Education Officer will be responsible for include “School Landcare” and “Know Your Local Patch”. Other program areas currently being developed include agriculture, sustainability, and waste.

Landcare Tasmania is the peak body that represents, supports, strengthens and grows the community Landcare movement in Tasmania. It is the oldest State-based Landcare organisation in Australia with more than 300 member groups, plus individual and associate members; supporting over 6,000 volunteers to maintain and improve the health of Tasmania’s natural and working landscapes.

Landcare Tasmania is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation and registered charity. We work closely with the community, government bodies, businesses, educational institutions and other environmental organisations to achieve environmental and sustainability outcomes for Tasmania. SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Experience working with school age children and youth
  • Experience in project management and implementation, including workshop planning and delivery
  • Knowledge and experience in environmental science or a related field (e.g. ecology, biology, land management etc)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Understanding of environmental NGOs and the Landcare movement
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player as well as independently
  • A Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Tasmanian) or ability to obtain
  • A current Australian driver’s licence
  • Demonstrates values that align with Landcare Tasmania’s core values


Desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in education, environmental science or similar
  • Experience working with NGOs
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Other specialised education skills
  • Knowledge and experience of the current education environment in Tasmania
