Southern Beaches Landcare/Coastcare Working Bee

The Arnott St site has been an area of focus for SBLC since a fire went through the dunes in 2006. For the past ten years volunteers have been weeding out boneseed seedlings, which often proliferate following a fire as the hard seed casings are cracked open by the heat. See what ten years of TLC can give to our dunes, by comparing the attached photos from 2006 to the recent one from last years working bee.

You can't really miss the boneseed at this time of year - all those attractive bushes, covered in clusters of yellow daisy-like flowers?
Yep - that is boneseed - an invasive weed that competes with native plants and reduces biodiversity. As the plants can grow two metres high and wide, they are also a significant fire hazard. So we want them out!

Come and help out SBLC on Saturday the 17th, and give our native dune plants and wildlife some breathing space! Join us for a refreshments afterwards and experience the payoff - you get to feel good about working for our local environment - and keep our beautiful surf beach dunes in their natural state.

See you there!
