Renewing the Agnes Rivulet with Port Cygnet Land and Watercare

Landcare Tasmania in conjunction with the Port Cygnet Land and Watercare Group Inc have completed an erosion control project along the Agnes Rivulet, Cygnet.

The project incorporated new fencing along the Rivulet to prevent live stock entering the area, weed removal and revegetation of the bank. The project aim is to prevent erosion and continue the wildlife corridor along the Rivulet.

Volunteers attended the site to assist with planting some 150 trees, it was a lovely winters day with work completed before lunch.

All involved have been invited back in five years’ time to witness the transformation of the Rivulet and appreciate their hard work. Thank you to Landcare Tasmania and Port Cygnet Land and Watercare Group Inc for the support and assistance to renew the Agnes Rivulet.

This project is part of our Huon/Channel Catchment Restoration Project and us funded by the State Governments Landcare Action Grants.

Event Wrap-Ups

Celebrating Science Week

For Science Week 2023, we joined the Material Institute in hosting a set of workshops for visiting high schools. Our Landcare workshop focused on introducing wildlife monitoring, and showcasing an incredible collection of significant items and bush tucker loaned from Rosny mob, as well as scats, tracks, and traces for students to handle and identify.

Planting for the Green and Gold Frog

Its been a successful week of plantings at ZooDoo with two corporate events and one volunteer day helping get nearly 1,000 plants in the ground.  This project aims to increase connectivity for wildlife throughout the Pages Creek Catchment and improve the habitat of the threatened Green and Gold Frog (Litoria raniformis).

Healthy Landcare Groups for the Win! 🩺

What's the secret to Landcare groups that are still going strong for decades? How can new groups start with the best chances of success?

This can feel like the holy grail of running a Landcare group! Thanks to our partnership with professional community engagement facilitator Kim Boswell at The Forever Agenda, we had the opportunity to offer our members some fresh ideas for recruiting new volunteers and planning for future change (succession planning).

Right now, around 30 groups are working their way through Kim's Volunteer Recruitment online course, and several members joined us in Succession Planning webinars last month with great feedback.

If you missed out, check out these opportunities:
