The Importance of Feral Cat Control in the Achievement of Landcare Objectives

Landcare fosters a sustainable approach to integrated land management, environmental protection, enhancement and conservation of land, water, waterways and coasts. Natural habitat restoration to enhance biodiversity. Building resilience in Australia's food and farming systems.

One critical threat that this approach has to confront, is the devastating impact of feral cats on the natural environment. This is particularly true in Tasmania, where these cats are decimating native fauna, both in coastal and montane habitats.

One major control technique to address this problem is regular and targeted cat-trapping programs to substantially reduce the impact that they are having. Feral cat trapping is seen as the most effective and humane way in reducing their numbers.
